I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. -- John 10:14
This unique and beautiful faith formation method is Montessori-based, offering children the opportunity to use simple and beautiful materials that help them connect the Bible and the Liturgy (Baptism, Mass, and other Sacraments) to their own life. The special space where children can engage the Mystery of God in hands–on experiences is called the Atrium, named after the space in the Early Church, where those preparing for Sacraments (catechumens) would gather.
The Atrium is designed with child-sized furniture, a prayer table, model altar and materials. The atmosphere is quiet, allowing for presentations based on the Bible and Liturgical Celebrations. By meeting the child at his/her developmental level and providing a retreat-like environment that is quiet and conducive to prayer, each child can experience the Mystery of God and so fall in love with Him.
The CGS Atria at Mary, Seat of Wisdom are located in the Clark Ministry Center and are structured in four levels: Level 1 - ages 4-6: Level II- ages 6-9;Level III - ages 9-12 and our unique atria for Confirmation preparation, Level IV - generally ages 12-14.
Families are encouraged to bring their children to the Level I Atrium at age four. Each year in the atrium builds upon the previous year, as the understanding and faith of the child develops. With the lived faith experience of the family, this formation allows the child to naturally progress in preparation for the Sacraments.
Our 1.5 hour sessions are held weekly, September through May and are led by specially trained catechists. To learn more about CGS at Mary, Seat of Wisdom, please reach out to the Faith Formation Office at 847-825-8763 or email Stephanie Culica at [email protected].
