su casaMary, Seat of Wisdom has partnered with Su Casa, an  organization dedicated to empowering individuals and familes to live free from domestic abuse.  MSW volunteers help with maintenance needs, supplies, prayful support, and monetary donations to support the efforts of SuCasa and Hogan's kitchen.

Located in Chicago in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, Su Casa's mission is three fold: hospitality, community outreach, and social justice.  Responding to the Godpell call to compassionate action and in the tradition of the Catholic Worker movement, we are committed to a simple, non-violent lifestyle as we live and work among the poor.

  • First, Su Casa is a transitional residence that offers hospitality and a healing environment to homeless Latino families.
  • Seond, Hogan's Kitchen partners with neighbors to make our community a better place to live.  We coordinate a Sunday soup kitchen with parishes on the South Side, serve breakfast to our neighbors two mornings a week, and organize a community garden that provides food for our shelter and some neighborhood families.
  • Third, we inform others of social justice issues related to our work by publishing a newsletter, Kairos.  We host groups of students who volunteer with us and in our neighborhood. We partner with other organizations to work for change in arenas that affect women and children, such as housing, public aid, and immigration issues.

Thanks for your support!

As a member of Mary, Seat of Wisdom, you have partnered with Su Casa in so many ways!  Parish volunteer groups have gifted the home with a face-lift through painting, cleaning, window-washing, gardening, and other repair jobs. School drives and families have collected art supplies, favorite kids' foods, clothing, toys, and school supplies.  Lenten almsgiving and on-going donations help SuCasa to keep the doors open at both the home and Hogan's Kitchen.
