Weddings and Marriage Preparation
Mary, Seat of Wisdom joyfully welcomes you to preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony. Your decision to enter married life is a sign of love, hope and strength for our entire community. A wedding is a unique gathering of families and friends, young and old, married and single. It is God’s faithful love that gathers this community. Grateful for the gift of God’s fidelity, the community gathers to witness the pledge of bride and groom “to love and honor each other as husband and wife for the rest of our lives.” The celebration at our church is more than a wedding. Since human married love is a sign of God’s nearness and presence, we call marriage a sacrament. Our parish also looks beyond the wedding to help couples prepare for the marriage commitment. Couples who have prepared well for marriage are shown to be more successful. We have found a variety of tools to be effective in our marriage ministry. To begin preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage, please call the parish office to provide some basic information about yourselves. You will be contacted by a member of the parish staff. This initial contact usually takes place about a year before the intended date of the wedding. A minimum of 4-6 months are needed to adequately complete the preparation program. Helping couples prepare for marriage is an important component of our pastoral ministry. |
