Baptisms

Sacraments of Initiation for Adults

Adults interested in Baptism or learning more about becoming Catholic are invited to the RCIA program, the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.  This ongoing group of adult Catholics accompanies inquirers through various stages and celebrations of their growing faith. In late summer and early fall, a new RCIA group us usually being planned, but we welcome your inquiry at any time of the year.

Please contact Fr. Richard Grek, C.R. at 847-825-3153 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information about the RCIA.

The Sacraments of Initiation for Adults (Baptism Confirmation and Eucharist) are usually celebrated at the Easter Vigil.

Baptism of Infants

Mission Statement

The “Welcoming Your Child” Baptism Preparation Ministry prepares parents to more fully understand the Sacrament of Baptism as it blesses and welcomes their child into a community of faith by focusing on marriage and parenting as God’s call to holiness and by explaining the ceremony, symbolism, and procedures of the sacrament.

Goals and Objectives

The goals of the “Welcoming Your Child” Baptismal Program are to:

  • raise parental awareness that their journey through parenthood is their path for responding to God’s call to holiness,
  • increase awareness that the everyday tasks of parenting are sacred tasks which make way for God’s presence in the world,
  • increase understanding that relationships which grow and change after the birth of a child are opportunities for God to be made present in daily life.
  • Foster a greater understanding of the sacrament of baptism and the Catholic faith.
  • Educate parents and godparents as to their roles in this extraordinary commitment.
  • Explain specific details concerning the concerning the baptismal ceremony.
  • Answer parents’ and godparents’ question concerning the baptismal rite.

Schedule for  “Welcoming Your Child” Parent Sessions

Sessions will be made available to parents throughout the year.  Each session will be facilitated by a team of 2-3 couples and will be held in a parish facility.

For most Catholics the Baptism of infants has been their primary experience.  However, even the baptism of an infant presumes an adult faith. Parents and Godparents accept the responsibility of being witnesses of faith.  Parents and Godparents renew their own Baptismal Promises during the ceremony.  For additional information, go to: Godparents for Infant Baptism.

Infant Baptisms are usually scheduled on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month at 12:30PM. Either the parents or their grandparents should be registered parishioners.  Ongoing affiliation with a particular parish is a necessity which helps parents fulfill their responsibility for raising the child in faith.  The process starts with contacting the parish secretary. Baptisms are occasionally celebrated at one of the Sunday masses.

A member of our Baptism Preparation Ministry will contact the family to arrange for a meeting.  Godparents and other adults such as grandparents can participate in the preparation.
